The iPad mini

Reviewers confirm 4th-gen iPad is merely an incremental refresh

iPad mini review
"This isn't just an Apple tablet made to a budget. This isn't just a shrunken-down iPad. This is, in many ways, Apple's best tablet yet, an incredibly thin, remarkably light, obviously well-constructed device that offers phenomenal battery life. No, the performance doesn't match Apple's latest and yes, that display is a little lacking in resolution, but nothing else here will leave you wanting. At $329, this has a lot to offer over even Apple's more expensive tablets."

Basically, Scott Forestall is leaving and reports to Tim Cook until then.

John Browett, Retail, is also leaving, fired basically.

They were both responsible for major snafus this past year, the Maps debacle and the Store personnel backlash.

Craig Federighi gets Bob Mansfield's old job of Sr VP of both Hardware and Software engineering.

Dan Riccio???  The press release didn't say, but he was previously listed as Sr VP Hardware engineering, which is now Federighi's post.

Bob Mansfield returned soon after retiring and is now in charge of "Technologies" for at least two years, which combines all wireless tech and semiconductors.

Whew!

Apple announces changes to increase collaboration across hardware, software & sevices.

"As part of these changes, Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield, Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi will add more responsibilities to their roles. Apple also announced that Scott Forstall will be leaving Apple next year and will serve as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook in the interim."

skeuomorphism going away too?

Forstall Out; Ive Up
"But the big news today is about Jony Ive. I don't think it can be overstated just how big a deal it is that he now oversees all product design, hardware and software. For the last year, outside observers have been left to wonder just where the buck stopped for UI design at post-Jobs Apple. That question has now been answered: Jony Ive."
