My roommate at Berklee, Kerry Blount, had this album when we were Freshmen in 1967.

It had just come out that summer.

I can only claim this track off the album as my song for the next year.

Once upon a time in 1967

Remember the one negative survey of the new Apple ad cited yesterday by BloombergBusinessweek and re-posted by AppleInsider?

The company who administered that survey was Ace Metrix, Inc, whose newest (and probably largest) client is Samsung.

There are rumors of new Apple monitors coming any day now

The technology that could put Apple back on top

"The technology allows for a simple swap-out, swap-in on the production line. LCD manufacturers take out a diffusion film in the back panel and drop the QDEF in its place. It means a cost increase that Nanosys describe as marginal and 3M describe as a few percentage points.

Combined with the Retina, it should make for an awesome display. And the new color possibilities make Jony Ive's new design for iOS 7 seem more astute. Apple's old design would look confusing  if color were the main virtue of the display. By clearing away visual clutter by going for flatter and whiter screens, the colors get a better chance of doing their job – enhancing consumer experience."

These giant two-page USAToday centerfold print ads for Apple products also appear in the WSJ, LA Times, NY Times, etc.

Notice that the TV ad and the print ads never use the Apple logo, just the slogan "Designed by Apple in California."

Their name "Apple" is never spoken

I can imagine Don Draper, the Mad Men protagonist, pitching this campaign.

I can hear him in my head doing the voice over for the TV spots.

The minimalist soundtrack immediately grabs the viewers' attention even though they may not be watching the screen at the time.

Nicely done

The script for the TV spots and the copy for the print ads are the same

The products are so well known by now, they are never mentioned by name in the ads

Just photos of people enjoying them as in the TV spot

This photo of the 2 pg. ad in the USA Today Wed.June 26 ad was taken with my iPhone without flash or correction.

USA Today centerfold 2 page print ads accompany TV spots

All you see in this ad is a pair of earbuds with their distinctive white cables being shared.

In fact you only see one earbud

From Apple website

Of course people who believe they can measure such things disagree.

Those same people didn't like the "Here's to the crazy ones" Campaign either

Which is what I believe Apple is going for during a time period where they haven't a new killer product to promote

The ads are saying, we're still here, we're busy creating the things you love to use over and over again

Be patient and the magic will return

This is the way Apple says they are the number one company in the world to the world

They aren't concerned about "surveys"

Amazon was and still is the monopolist and ringleader of eBook publishing and sales.

Here's what Roger Parloff, senior editor at Fortune, has to say:

US v Apple: A puzzle with a big piece missing

The government's ebook antitrust case against Apple makes perfect sense—so long as you don't ask why Amazon was pricing below cost.

"Apple unquestionably enhanced competition and innovation in a sorely over-concentrated market. (I consequently adhere to my earlier view, expressed here, that if the case reaches the U.S. Supreme Court Apple will win.)"

"Months before trial, during the discovery phase, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote denied Apple the right to inquire into Amazon's business strategy, finding it irrelevant to the issues before her. Accordingly, Amazon's conduct was the missing piece right smack in the middle of the jigsaw puzzle."

"For their part, the lead Department of Justice lawyers, Mark Ryan and Lawrence Buterman, glossed over Amazon's unusual pricing as a routine "loss-leader" strategy, presumably designed to lure more visitors to the Amazon site where they could buy other items at a profit. Garden rakes, maybe."
