Besides an external Time Machine HD BU, I use CCC to back-up those same files to additional external HDs.

I switch-out 2 alternating portable HD clones every month or so to a safety deposit box at the bank.

I also have CD and DVD archives of old computer HDs and files, such as artwork, applications, and I keep the old internal drives themselves.
