Welcome to the Applesphere

How big is Apple's ecosystem?

As I've said before, IDC hates Apple, so add another 4 to 5 percentage points to Apple's sales in this chart from IDC.

Take them out of Samsung's share if you want.

IDC: Samsung sales down 4% in Q2, Apple up 12% in Q2

The only reason Apple is focussing on "value" is because Intel can't deliver their new Broadwell chips.

Apple has to "punt" through no fault of their own on new models.

It's all on Intel, who can't seem to get themselves together, going on a third year now without a significant processor upgrade.

Apple's double digit US Mac growth contradicts IDC & Gartner

"Macs have now gained global market share for 32 of the last 33 quarters"  - Tim Cook

The guy who owned IDC hated Apple and hated Steve Jobs (it's one reason Apple pulled out of Macworld)

Gartner has "close ties" to MS, and Strategy Analytics is a "pay for play" measuring tool.

The Canalys chart above is for first quarter sales only, not the record 2nd quarter that Apple just announced.

PC sales estimates: how the sausage gets made

Apple called BS last week to the U.S. Mac sales numbers IDC and Gartner sent to clients two weeks earlier, AppleInsider's Daniel Eran Dilger reported Saturday. The two market research firms had sales falling. Apple had them growing by "strong double digits[s]," according to the earnings call transcript [see note below].

It wouldn't be the first time Gartner and IDC got caught with their methodological pants down. In November 2010 Asymco's Horace Dediu was aghast to discover a 77 million unit discrepancy in their mobile phone data — data he depends on to draw his famous charts and graphs.

Is Apple, Inc worth over $800 Billion?

So long as Apple can maintain its earnings multiple without meaningful expansion or contraction, it seems that a $135 price target is within reach.
