Jony Ive is keeping ahead of the curve, not afraid to kill old signature ideas of design and materials, replacing them with new ones, some of which will be featured in the new Apple Park.
Inside the Ring, Ive lingers on another feature that draws special pride: the staircases. They're made of a thin, lightweight concrete that achieves the perfect white, and they have unusual banisters that seem carved out from the wall alongside the stairs. "You can create a handrail by screwing on a railing system that is essentially an afterthought," he says, with unfettered contempt at those who would. "But you actually solve it fundamentally with design." Wired
