Apple is adding at least one and maybe two additional chip foundries for its computers and dedicated devices

One in Taiwan and another in western New York State

Thus continues the slow journey of moving away from Samsung as Apple's only supplier of processor silicon

Apple will continue to fatten Samsung through 2015 according to one report

This first story jibes with a report from Appleinsider last December

Apple talking to Globalfoundries about U.S. based chipmaking, says report
"If Apple owned capacity at a fab, it would give the company the kind of control over both design and chip manufacturing that Intel has, the report said."

"Globalfoundries has a relatively new fab in upstate New York that has "a lot of idle capacity and a lot of new [production] tools," said the source. It's capable of making ARM chips (the same chip design Apple uses) based on 32 and 28 nanometer manufacturing process technology. And it's developing more advanced 20 and 14 nanometer process technologies, the source added."

"GF, the erstwhile chipmaking arm of Advanced Micro Devices, has "a lot of idle capacity and a lot of new [production] tools," a source familiar with the chipmaker told CNET on Friday.

It gets better. GF is now ready and willing to make just the kind of advanced ARM chips that Apple uses."
