If you don't count research, advertising, distribution, marketing, knowing what you're taking about, etc.,

but if you just want to add up the wholesale price of the parts and subtract that from the retail price, OK, it's a 45-61% margin.

Amazon wants to crush all your hopes and dreams if you are a content creator.

Author, publisher, composer, artist, inventor, are all being screwed to death by Amazon and the government regulators who are protecting them.

On the live side of the entertainment business there is Live Nation and SFX who now own everything down to and including the nightclub level.

Next, they'll want control of high school auditoriums and Junior Proms.

Then there are the "talent show" aggregators, as I call them, like American Idol, The Voice, etc.

Big brother owns the music business!

As far as this article goes, it doesn't go far enough

Amazon, Apple and the beauty of low margins

...Some might say that Apple doesn't have the right mindset to play low-margin offense, that it's against their nature. But they've effectively dominated and wrung every last drop of money from the iPod market using pieces of this strategy, and they have the operational expertise and vertical integration to achieve it. In fact,Apple now turns its inventory more times a year than Amazon, by a healthy margin, a staggering fact.

I haven't mentioned Google much, but like Amazon they will continue to attack Apple at the low end with their strategy of subsidizing businesses with their core ad revenue. For the forseeable future, Apple will have these two giants snatching at their feet. It's a high pressure, high stakes game. Wouldn't it be nice to trade some margin for higher castle walls, just for peace of mind?

I can't imagine having to deal with this little asshole.

Actually I dealt with a lot of them, but there was always an alternative, now there isn't.
