Katy Huberty: iPhone 5C could push Apple to No. 1 in China

AlphaWise survey finds Chinese willing to pay up to RMB 4,000 ($486) for the Apple brand.

Apple pulled out of IDC's MacWorld convention a couple or three of years back. Since then (and even before then), IDC reports and has reported erroneously on Apple's numbers, reports negatively on Apple in their articles, or elevates Apple's competitors with only taking their word for numbers instead of fact checking.  Add that to the fact that IDC releases these "reports" at the end of a life cycle for any particular Apple product when users are waiting for the next version or generation.

IDC never makes any mention of the fact that China uses protectionist tactics to block Apple's sales in sectors such as phones, tablets and computers.  Nor do they report that China unfairly hassles Apple when someone buys a defective and potentially harmful third party cable or accessory. China gives easier and cheaper access to counterfeiters of Apple products and their OEMs (Samsung for instance) than they do Apple, but you won't see that reported very often in MacWorld, PC World or any other IDC publication.

I don't believe IDCs numbers frankly, and I think the same is often true for Gartner.  I think tech companies get what they "pay for" with PC World and Macworld, and yes I know I cite them or link to them from time to time.

Take this false Tech Crunch headline and article from 2011 for instance.

Who do you think "paid" for this lie?

Actually it's two lies.

iOS wasn't in second place and Windows Phone did not steal their position, not even close!

Unlike PC manufacturers, Apple has a complete, successful array of top selling computing devices.

In fact, Apple is the main reason that those PC makers are losing sales and are in trouble in the first place.

PCs are losing sales to iPads, iPad minis, iPhones, Macs and MacBook Airs.

Apple will do far better going forward than Dell and hp.

The Chinese companies seem to get this and started copying everything Apple sooner.

Of course they are.

They want to undercut and swamp Apple like they did RCA and Magnavox in the previous century.

RCA had to form the Japan Victor Corp. to even do business with Japan.

The US ITC better get its head screwed on straight.
