Could Steve Jobs actually win his thermonuclear war?

Last week, when Judge Richard Posner dismissed "with prejudice" Apple's suit against Motorola over yet another Android phone, it looked as if Jobs' threats might have been empty. In retrospect, as FOSS Patents' Florian Mueller points out, Posners' decision was better for Apple than for Google. His ruling that preliminary injunctions can't be granted on so-called FRAND patents may have permanently disarmed the legal weapons both Samsung and Motorola Mobility (now part of Google) had hoped to deploy against Apple's patent arsenal.

Google has spread a ton of political influence money in Washington DC and around the world, well over ten times more than Apple.

Hi,

The iPhone Turns 5: Look How Far It's Come

Who needs an app store?  Five years of iPhone

I wondered what it meant when he took his stock options a short while ago.  Now we know.

I hope he doesn't go to another company. Google could use him for their hardware division.

Analyst: Apple can 'relax,' as Google Nexus 7 is 'just another' Android tablet

Wow! This looks nothing like the iPad, snark, snark.

Now, if Apple comes with a 7.85" iPad or iPodTouch, will Google sue Apple for patent infringement?

Nexus 7's aspect ratio is 1280 X 800 instead of 1280 X 720 (iPad1&2)

I guess they figure that's enough of a difference to avoid patent infringement.

We'll see if Apple will even bother to sue.

Evidently that's what Google wants, a direct law suit between the two main parties instead of using their surrogates, Samsung & htc.

It's definitely a dare from Google.

I think the folks at Google troll the Patently Apple web site in order to "invent" their new products

There's also the problem of so many ex-Apple employees job-hopping around the Valley with inside knowledge of Apple's products in development.
